Preparing managers for their first capital request
9 June 2026 · Mika Fujimoto
First capital requests fail less often on vision than on sequence. Managers who have never filed above the small-purchase threshold underestimate how many signatures and annexes travel with the form.
A workable order
- Confirm the value band and routing matrix with procurement — before drafting prose.
- Collect quotes on a shared specification; do not let each vendor answer a different brief.
- Draft the business case to the form’s character limits; park longer narrative in an annex labelled as such.
- Book safety or facilities reviewers early; their calendars slip more than finance’s.
- Ask for an independent readiness check only when the draft is stable enough that findings will still be true next week.
Logic Space’s requester workshops walk this sequence with a sample packet. The goal is fewer returned files, not a longer binder.
