Reading amount mismatches across languages

Many Japanese corporations still file a Japanese approval form with English-language quotes from overseas suppliers. In our audits, amount mismatches between those layers are among the most common material findings.

Where drift appears

• Tax-inclusive totals on the form versus tax-exclusive quote lines
• Annual fees stated on the cover while the annex sums a three-year contract
• Currency conversion frozen on different dates in different annexes
• Optional maintenance left out of the “total request” field but included in the justification narrative

A practical check before you submit

Print or export the form’s declared total. Highlight every figure in the quote annexes that feeds that total. If you cannot draw a clean line from annex to form in under ten minutes, the committee will not manage it in five.
